The 73th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

On May 7 of this year an evening of remembrance devoted to the 73th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held. The event was attended by the Rectorate, academic and administrative staff, and students of the university.

The evening of remembrance started with a minute of silence for those who perished in the Great Patriotic War. In his opening remarks the University Rector, Prof. Dr. Sebahattin Balci, said: “The Great Victory reminds us of the value of peace and stability in every city, village, street, home and family. We have no right to forget the heroic deeds of our fathers”. The Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Asylbek Kulmyrzayev, noted: “It is our duty to put all our efforts into maintaining peace and serenity in Kyrgyzstan, and to commemorate the Great Victory for the country’s future. The youth should remember the past and the deeds of our ancestors, and continue along their path”.

At the event a play under the name “Kelgen Zhok” (lit.: ‘hasn’t returned’) was performed by students of the Faculty of Arts. In addition, a documentary film “Kyrgyzstan in the Great Patriotic War” and a short video “No One Will Be Forgotten!” prepared by the International Students Coordinating Office were shown.
